As the insurance industry adapts to shifting operational models, the demand for well-trained internal teams and outsourcing partners is on the rise. In response, The Institutes has launched the Associate in Insurance Operations (AIO) designation to build a consistent foundation of skills across the extended insurance enterprise. The credential is aimed at enhancing service delivery, accuracy, and workflow efficiency by equipping professionals with practical knowledge specific to insurance operations.

Developed based on input from over 450 carriers and 65 outsourcing firms, the AIO designation addresses the industry’s growing need for standardized operational expertise. The program’s curriculum focuses on core areas like claims and underwriting fundamentals, policy administration, and client service essentials—delivered within the context of real-world workflows. These focus areas help reduce ramp-up time for new hires while aligning teams across internal and external operations.

The designation is particularly suited for early-career professionals in carrier operations, BPO firms, and brokerage support roles. It includes three online courses and a free ethics module, all designed for flexibility and self-paced learning. The program can typically be completed in three to six months, and exams are available fully online with rolling registration windows. Participants also earn CE credits in many U.S. states and can apply credits toward other Institutes designations.

By launching the AIO designation, The Institutes is providing a strategic upskilling solution that meets modern insurance operations challenges. Beyond offering technical proficiency, the program develops critical thinking, communication, and analytical reasoning skills—making it a valuable asset for both individuals and organizations aiming to improve operational performance and service quality.
