Pets Overcoming Unusual Mishaps Compete for Nationwide’s 2024 Hambone Award

Nationwide has announced the finalists for its 16th annual Hambone Award, which recognizes the most unusual pet insurance claims. This year’s contenders include a mixed-breed dog from North Carolina who devoured over 250 jigsaw puzzle pieces and a parrot from New Jersey who tangled its toenails together. Other nominees feature a variety of strange incidents, such as a dog that got its mouth glued shut and another that ingested metal wire bits.

All finalists made full recoveries, thanks to timely veterinary care covered by Nationwide pet insurance. Voting for the most unusual claim is open until August 22, 2024, with the winner to be announced on August 27, 2024. The grand prize winner will receive the Hambone Award trophy and a Petco gift card, while runners-up will also receive Petco gift cards.
