There are few things worse than having your relatively new car stall on you without warning. That’s why Ford is recalling nearly 90,000 vehicles with a defect that could leave your car dead — and unable to restart — in the middle of the road.

The heartbreaking task of sorting through waterlogged belongings and ripping out carpets and drywall is kicking into high gear Wednesday in flood-wracked southern Louisiana as the state faces a long-term challenge of how to house thousands of displaced people.

Swollen rivers across much of southern Louisiana receded slowly from record levels on Monday while rescue crews searched for people stranded in flooded homes after torrential rains left seven people dead.

Right now, rescue crews are on the scene of a civilian helicopter crash in Iberia Parish. According to Sheriff Louis Ackal, the crash happened in the Atchafalaya Basin in the Iberia Parish panhandle. Ackal says at least one person is in the water.

Ford is recalling about 830,000 vehicles in the U.S. and Mexico because parts in the side door latches can break and the doors can open while the vehicles are moving.
